Jakarta Focuses on Flood Mitigation and Security as Readiness to Hold Gubernatorial Election 2024

Jakarta General Election Commission together with related stakeholders are still finalizing the preparation of Gubernatorial Election on November 27, 2024.

Jakarta Health Agency will also deploy its medical personnel

One of the major challenges anticipated is the potential for flooding that could disrupt the voting process since rainfall this month is quite high.

Jakarta KPU member, Astri Megatari said last February Election became an important lesson. At that time, TPS 19 had to conduct Advanced Voting since the ballot boxes were damaged by flood, and several TPS were inundated. This condition made voters difficult to attend.

Entering Quiet Week of Pilkada, Campaign Props in East Jakarta Removed

Jakarta KPU has cooperated with Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to provide rubber boats that can be used by voters who have difficulty reaching the TPS. The cooperation is made as a mitigation step.

"Jakarta Health Agency will also deploy its medical personnel in sub-district and urban village to handle fatigue or other emergency situations experienced by KPPS officers," she said, Monday (11/25).

She added that Jakarta KPU also cooperates with Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency to make sure all voters have electronic ID card. The agency is ready to hold mobile service for voters who still have no electronic ID card.

Related to the security, the Director of Intelkam Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Dekananto Eko Purwono, stated that his side together with army personnel are ready to secure TPS and logistics. His side also pays attention to the honorarium of KPPS personnel stored in urban village office.

"We will ensure that the distribution of KPPS honorariums runs smoothly one day before voting day of the Pilkada so that there are no problems that disrupt the implementation process," he stated.

Related with polling stations that are prone to flood, he added, mitigation will be carried out by moving the polling stations to the nearest safe location but still in the same area.

According to him, Jakarta is currently conducive are ready to run Pilkada. He is optimistic Jakarta can successfully run the election, despite the challenges of weather and flood.
